The Bestiary

The Bestiary gathers the creatures that haunt the edges of human story and memory — the monsters, spirits, and guardians that shape the world of myth. Each one carries its own history, symbolism, and cultural resonance, revealing what ancient peoples feared, admired, or sought to understand. Among the bestiary you may also encounter unique creations from the minds of some of our greatest authors. Although these creatures are not ancient, they have echoes of classical creatures within them and are definitely worthy of inclusion in any classical study!

This collection invites readers to explore those beings not just as obstacles in heroic tales, but as reflections of deeper human truths: chaos and order, transformation and punishment, the wild and the civilised. On a deeper level, the monsters are darker reflections of ourselves. Organised by culture and presented as a deck of mythic cards, the Bestiary offers a way to wander through the world’s stories creature by creature, following the threads that bind them across time and tradition.
